Curtis House Inn, 506 Main Street South, Woodbury, CT

The officers and board of directors of the Woodbury Business Association (WBA) have announced that Harris “Bud” Neal, owner of Neal Tree Service in Woodbury, has been named recipient of the 2017 James J. Clark, Jr. Community Service Award.

Initiated by the WBA in 2003, the Clark Award acknowledges a commitment to community service and volunteerism that James Clark personified over 40 years to the Woodbury community.
Clark Award candidates are nominated by both WBA and community members. Bud Neal prevailed in the voting from a list of nominees.

"There are a great deal of people contributing their time and energy to doing good," said Kurt Mazurosky, president of the WBA. "But few of us can ever hope to match the tireless effort which Bud Neal has made to helping people and improving the community."

Mr. Neal, a lifelong Woodbury resident, has been a volunteer in the community for years, known for lending a helping hand to individuals and civic organizations alike.

He flies the American flag over Main Street on national holidays and days of remembrance. He has been active with the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 50 years and has served in leadership positions with King Solomon's Lodge and the First Congregational Church.

A veteran and member of American Legion Post 155, he provides his time, expertise and knowledge giving the tree trimming and maintenance course each Spring by the Woodbury Shade Tree and Sidewalk Committee.

Mr. Neal will be honored at the James J. Clark Community Service Award Dinner to be held on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Curtis House Inn, 506 Main Street South, Woodbury, CT.
